apology post

Okay you guys. Those of you who have planned/helped plan a wedding will understand.
My life has very rapidly turned into chaos.

I have described my life as chaos before, but until these last couple of months, I had no idea.
It's wonderful chaos, don't get me wrong. But I have not had time for certain things I love to do, such as posting regularly!

In attempt to make up for the posts I have neglected in the past weeks, here is a giant outfit post from the Elvira Bleu Vaults.

My legs are camouflaged into the background. Crazy that these pants actually serve their intended purpose.

 This outfit is from so long ago, I can't even remember which season it was from. Then again, Tennessee can go through all four seasons in one week. Nevertheless, on this particular day, I was doubled up on asymmetrical cardigans. Because who needs a jacket when you could just keep piling up on sweaters?

so here's the outfit breakdown:
1. taupe cardigan: Old Navy
2. grey cardigan: gifted
3. gradient tank: hand-me-down
4. camo pants: Bullhead Black {PacSun}
5. trouser shoes: Forever21

soooo, that probably doesn't make up for the fact that I have been completely AWOL the past few weeks. I wish I could promise to be more consistent, but I know the wedding plans will only get crazier and more chaotic. After I finally marry my love & we return from our honeymoon, I will be 100% back in the blogging game!

I love you all :)

stripes + specs

I just realized that I have worn printed jeans the past 3 outfit posts. I believe it's safe to say I am hooked! These tribal printed pants were perfect for today's coast to coast challenge of Stripes + Specs! For those of you who follow me on Instagram, {my name has been changed from haneliven to elvirableu} you saw the fate of my beloved specs. Until I receive my Warby Parker home try-on package, I will be facing the world with two eyes instead of four.

For the sake of today's challenge, I popped out the remaining lens of my glasses & simply wore the frames. {don't worry, this will not become a habit.}

The lovely Katie Anderson made me feel like a princess again today by doing my hair + makeup. The pictures don't do justice to how she played up my eyes with beautiful blues and greens. This girl knows what she's doing. I don't ever have to tell her what to do because she understands style. What a pro.

can you tell my glasses are lens-less? I'm such a dork.

here's the outfit breakdown:
1. asymmetrical sweater: gifted
2. white lace top: forever 21
3. blue tank: CAbi
4. tribal print pants: TJ Maxx
5. suede wedge booties: PacSun
6. watch: Anne Klein
7. gold cross bracelet: Rad Fads

The weather was absolutely gorgeous today. Spring is here! Spring is here! Finally, after a few snow storm scares, the sunshine is here to stay {I hope}.

Happy Thursday lovelies. Tomorrow is Friday, and that is always fun.

what a rebel

So I know today is supposed to be Wedding Wednesday, but my outfit today was feeling fabulousa and wanted to be seen!

But seriously, I had so much fun mixing prints today. Mixing prints is a great way to make your outfit fun without getting too crazy. As you can see, my color palate today was pretty neutral. Neutrals don't have to be boring!
{another way to brighten up a neutral outfit: a bold lip! It will make you feel like a superstar.}

Get ready for many more pictures of my sassy self, photos thanks to the amazing Bailey Gilreath-Brown!
{obviously Elvi was super into this photo sesh}

Besides the fact that my celebrity alter-ego took over today, the location Bailey and I chose for today's photos made me feel very sartorial and city chic.

Another reason I felt like a celebrity today: these sunglasses! They made me feel so fab. free people does it again!

Here's the outfit breakdown:
1. star blouse: TJ Maxx
2. Grey cotton longsleeve: TJ Maxx
3. turban: Elvira Bleu original
4. camo denim: PacSun
5. trouser shoes: F21
6. superstar sunglasses: Free People

Congratulations for making it through all these photos of my dog and me. Elvi is still in model training, right now we are still working on making her feel comfortable in front of the camera. She has a while to go.

We had a fun day running errands together {she actually hated it} and I am now the proud {and thankful} owner of a large crate for the Elvers. She is less than thrilled.

Happy Wednesday!

brights & pastels

Today's coast to coast challenge was absolutely perfect, considering I woke up to a fresh blanket of snow in my yard. My family is on Spring Break in Florida right now, while I opted for a cozy week of doggie snuggles in front of the fireplace.

Some of my fellow Tennesseans are feeling gloomy, wishing the snow was the warm spring sunshine. Today's challenge of pastels and brights should do the trick!

Adding brights to a pastel outfit is the perfect way to wear these subtle colors without looking like an Easter egg. These hot pink loafers alone make my day better.

Add a little pop of color with these rosette studs from anthro.

Without really meaning to, today's outfit is a frugal one!
Here's the breakdown:

sweater: thrifted
shirt: thrifted
jeans: pacsun
loafers: target

Happy Tuesday from Elvira Bleu!
The real Elvira Bleu is in the doghouse {ha, ha} because she demolished my prescription glasses today while I was at work. My anger quickly diminished when I discovered that Warby Parker does free home try-ons! Expect to see some frames on the blog in the near future! I will need help choosing :)

Kathia Henry Bonhomme

Imagine waking up and making the decision to live that day for others. I want you all to see and hear about this amazing woman I had the honor to meet & serve with. I haven't been able to get her off my mind since I learned of her unexpected death yesterday.

This beautiful woman taught me so much in the single week I spent with her. I want to share with you all how hard this woman worked and gave her life away daily.

Many of you followed the blog I kept for my trip to Haiti this past summer, the tales of hannah overseas. If so, you remember the post about Jimmy.

{if you haven't read it, take some time to do so. His story is amazing, and it will help you fully understand the magnitude of Kathia's service.}

Kathia had the most quiet confidence. She was a behind-the-scenes kind of woman. She never sought praise for her continuous acts of service. I was so blessed to have opportunities to serve behind the scenes with her, and was overwhelmed by her love and joy for life. Although we didn't speak the same language, we would sing and laugh together for hours on end. She had this effect on anyone in her presence.

Kathia and Jimmy have been married for almost two years. When marrying Jimmy, she was also marrying into the Zanfan Lakay family. Together, they ran a home for over 70 street children, ages 0-18. To most of them, Kathia was their mother. Three times a day, she prepared and served meals for each child and adult at Zanfan Lakay.

Not only did Kathia feed the children of Zanfan, she also prepared extra food a few times a week to feed street children of Port-au-Prince.

Kathia cared for each child as if they were her own. She bathed the little children, and braided the girls' hair. Most of these children never knew their own mothers. Kathia embodied the mother figure they never had or knew.

When the children reached the age of 18, they were no longer able to continue living in the home. Kathia taught the older kids different trades so they would be able to make money and provide for themselves after leaving the home. This included making jewelry and clothing, and tanning their own hide to make bags and shoes.

Not only did she teach them these trades, she also taught them the importance of generosity. While we were there, Kathia and the boys secretly made us all shoes. They presented them to us at the end of the week and we were all speechless. These were the items that they sold to make money, and here they were GIVING them to us.

Kathia and I had a special bond. I had brought a bag of jewelry to give to her and the other ladies who volunteer at the home. At the end of the week, she surprised me with a jewelry set that she had made especially for me. The beads were the color of the Haitian flag, "so you will never forget us."

Kathia spoke very little English. I spoke very little Creole. But our bond and friendship was undeniable. I feel like our hearts connected in a way that any language barrier could hinder. We cried as we hugged goodbye. I told her I would return as soon as I could, to which she replied that she and Jimmy would have an air mattress ready for me.

I had expected to return to Haiti to serve with Kathia and Jimmy for several months, but was unable to do so.

I am so thankful to the organization Grangou, Michael and Carrie Gibson for funding Zanfan. They provide funds for food, housing, and special amenities such as computers. I am so thankful to have kept in touch with my Haitian family via Facebook.

I called Jimmy and Kathia my Haitian parents, and I know I am not the only one who feels this way. To hundreds of Haitians and Americans, they truly are family. My heart is broken for Jimmy and all their "children" who are mourning over the loss of their Manmi.

Please keep them in your prayers. We are so happy we can say with confidence that Kathia is singing and dancing with Jesus right now. Those who love her cannot wait to join her one day.

I hope you feel encouraged and inspired by Kathia's life and service. She truly was one of the most selfless and generous people I have ever met, and I feel so blessed to have served by her side for a tiny period of time.

Here are statements from Facebook made by some of the Zanfan Lakay boys:

"I can't believe but it's true mama you gone who i will call when i wanna talk who i will kiss when i'm happy who i will say my secret no one can take your place but remenber i will always remenber you cause you always stay in my heart R.I.P Kathia Henry Bonhomme i will always love you my 2nd mother" - Ali Bonhomme {Jimmy's birth son}

"I dont have mom i dont have dad how God can help me?" - Ridje Henry {Kathia's birth son}

Everyone who knew this amazing woman is grieving with the hope and reassurance that she is with her Heavenly Father. We are so sad to be on this side of Heaven without her, but her legacy lives on.

Today, in honor of Kathia, the boys of Zanfan Lakay prepared and served food to the street boys of Port-au-Prince.

If you feel so compelled, a Memorial fund has been set up in Kathia's memory to raise money for Zanfan Lakay, her family, and her children. Check it out here.

To learn more about Zanfan and Grangou, please take some time to look at my other blog, because what is happening in Port-au-Prince, Haiti is truly amazing.

I hope you all feel encouraged, inspired, and hopeful after reading about this amazing woman's life. Once again, please pray for the ones who are mourning the loss of her earthly presence.

frugal friday

It's Friday! And a frugal Friday at that. Today has been spent crafting at work with the lovely Bailey. Keep an eye out for some pictures of our Easter crafts we made for Redo Home & Design.

My entire outfit is made up of gifts, hand-me-downs, and bargain buys!

here's the thrifty skinny:

1. longsleeve shirt: hand-me-down {BKE}
2. asymmetrical feathered vest: gifted {ya}
3. denim shorts: hand-me-down {rock & republic}
- these jeans were out of style & WAY too long, so I made them cutoffs -
4. socks: bargain {free people}
5. boots: bargain {spring step}

These boots are my new favorite!I found these on sale at the Country Mall off Highway 231 when Andy & I visited Auburn earlier this week. They are somewhat western with a very Free People vibe & the embroidery colors are perfect for spring.

I have been dreaming of adding some boots like these to my closet, so I was delighted to find these on sale!

I went to the grocery store today & an elderly employee wearing a cowboy hat yelled at me to tell me that he liked my boots. They MUST be fabulous.

Sorry the photo quality is low, I ran out of daylight. That's what I get for being a born procrastinator, I suppose.

I hope your weekend is wonderful :)
