hats are the new hoods

I wake up Friday morning and observe: winteresque temperature? check. pouring rain? check. places to be, hands to shake, babies to kiss? check.

Today was yucky. But as the saying goes, errands don't run themselves.

I constructed my Frugal Friday look based around my rain boots. These J Crew wellies are fur-lined (perfect for a rainy winter day), plus they have skulls and crossbones on them. My cousin got them for me one Christmas and calls them my "rockstar boots". Not going to lie, I do feel pretty BA when I wear them.

To contrast the dreariness of the day, I threw on a bright colored floral tank & layered a seafoam long-sleeve shirt on top. Topped off with my hand-me-down blush leather jacket, I was ready to conquer the day!

Styling tip from the headquarters:

JUST BECAUSE IT IS RAINING, DOESN'T MEAN YOU HAVE TO WEAR A RAIN JACKET.

I'm not saying don't wear a jacket at all. As you can see, my leather jacket has no hood to protect my precious head from the torrential downpour. However, I opted for my lovely navy blue hat, compliments of the Gap clearance rack.

Typically, the thing girls are most worried about when it rains is protecting their hair & makeup. Rain jackets are good, and umbrellas work perfectly, but they both seem to get in the way when you are in a hurry or have a strict schedule.

I don't know about you guys, but I always regret using umbrellas. They just seem like way more work than what they are worth. Am I right? So my favorite thing to do on a rainy day is wear a hat. The brim covers my face and hair perfectly, and the leather jacket does the work of a rain coat.

Yet another Frugal Friday outfit demonstrating how you don't need to spend every penny to look put together. Hand me downs, thrift shops, raiding closets of family members or friends... these are all secrets to having a successfully frugal outfit. Don't be afraid to layer, or mix and match patterns and colors. Have fun with it!

I would love to see YOUR Frugal Friday outfits!
happy weekend, lovies.
